Dart... Dallas Rapid Area Transit... well as some of the Texas and OU fans realized DART isnt so Rapid! DART officials totally dropped the ball by grossly underestimating the numbers of riders. Now the Dallas City counsel is calling a "Come to Jesus" meeting and inviting DART... no doubt the only invitee.
Dallas is so big and spread out that having a large mass transit is a must, its been a long and hard 20 years in the making and the DART officials have made some blunders to be sure. Budget problems seem to be a common theme in Dallas politics... DART included. None of them seem to be able to do simple arithmetic since they inevitably end up with their tit in the wringer either by honest shortfalls, or in most cases down right theft.
Ridership from the east side has always been high, and honestly would benefit from a light rail. One suggestion to come from the recent Texas-OU weekend fiasco was for DART to extend the TRE (Trinity Rail Express), the Diesel commuter train (that normally runs from Fort Worth to downtown Dallas) to Fair Park... Union Pacific owns that corridor now and after some contract negotiations may lead into a permanent solution that may help those who live on the east side.
yea right!! well a guy can dream right?
