WTF??

When can an employer tell its hourly employees to work on a saturday as a "Normal work day" and then force them to take a day off instead of paying over time?
and when this happens, what recourse does the employee have short of telling the boss-man "Take this job and shove it!"??
An employer does not have the right to anything outside of "Normal business hours" and can only make a request to work outside that scope.
