I read this and find so much wrong with it... so I "signed" the guest book with this:
March 25, 2010
I am sorry for your loss and I am very sorry there will not be an opportunity to attend a memorial service.
My father was classified under a "Critical Skills Deferment" program, He only served the Army through basic training with no other obligation to serve. Since he had not completed a minimum of 6 months of service he was not classified as a Veteran. I'm sure in your grief this was an honest mistake.

Yes I acknowledge this as a few levels below good taste and down right tacky... but I am entitled to a little tackiness damnit!
Being a Veteran myself I get a little prickly under the collar when people falsely claim to be a Veteran. I take it to mean that even though my father and his wife had been married about 20 years, she still didn't know him... Even his uncle is dead and buried in the same cemetery in Upper Michigan where his body will eventually go. AND What is up with "Memorials may be sent to..." What?? is she looking for MORE handouts???
Bitter, Table for one!
